Psychology Program Update: Fall 2002As of Fall 2002, Psychology labs will be no more! Instead, we will offer research seminars, two or three-unit courses that focus on a particular area of research. The new format will retain the focus on designing, running, and interpreting the results of an experiment, so the workload for students will be the same as it was in the labs. Some of the research seminars will be at the 3000 level and will apply what students learn in PSYC 2020 (or an equivalent course). The others will be at the 4000 level and will use techniques learned in PSYC 3000. When the new requirement takes effect in the 2002-2003 catalog year, students will be required to take two seminars, at least one of which must be at the 4000 level. As an added bonus, The Department is seeking approval to have the 4000 research seminars meet the WP requirement. What if your catalog requires labs?Students under a previous catalog can substitute any research seminar(s) for the lab requirement. A petition is not required. We have notified graduation evaluators to automatically count research seminars for the lab requirement. Fall Research SeminarsThe first set of research seminars are scheduled for Fall, 2002. Be careful to check the prerequisites before you register. You must have completed these courses before the semester you enroll in the research seminar. Concurrent enrollment is not permitted.
