Mission Statement

How we view Psychology

  • as the search to develop knowledge of behavior and mental processes by means of scientific methods and research
  • as the understanding of behavior through the integrated study of physiological systems, genetic influences, experiential and environmental factors and social forces

The Psychology Department at California State University, Stanislaus is committed to:

  • providing a high quality education to undergraduate and graduate students
  • helping students understand the central role of science in understanding human behavior
  • maintaining a well-rounded faculty that represents all areas of study in the field, including both theoretical and applied interests

The undergraduate program in Psychology:

  • fosters an understanding of psychology that reflects an integration of a variety of theoretical perspectives within Psychology.
  • provides an understanding of the principles of Psychology within a broad liberal arts perspective
  • provides undergraduates with applied experiences and research opportunities rarely found in undergraduate psychology programs

The Master of Science Programs in Behavior Analysis and Counseling:

  • adhere to the Scientist-Practitioner Model and reflect the balanced integration of theory, research, and practice
  • train students to ensure that their work is informed by the research base of empirically-validated interventions
  • train clinicians to evaluate client progress frequently, and to modify treatments based on fact finding and critical analysis

The Master of Arts Program:

  • allows students to pursue individual interests, framed in a thorough understanding of both theory and research
  • helps prepare students for doctoral study in psychology and academic careers
