The Application Process

  1. Meet prerequisites for the Masters of Arts Psychology Program
  2. Complete applications to both California State University, Stanislaus and the CSUS Psychology Department



Prerequisites for the M.A. in Psychology Degree

  1. Bachelors Degree with a 3.0 GPA
  2. 16 upper-division units in Psychology (each with a grade of B or better). These courses must include an upper-division methodology course.



The two-step written application process

Application is a two-step process with separate application forms for each step:

  1. Complete an application to California State University, Stanislaus. CSU Mentor provides a method for applying for all CSU campuses online. You can obtain a printed version of the university graduate application by contacting the Admissions and Records office at (209) 667-3070.
  2. Complete the application the California State University, Stanislaus Psychology Department Masters Program. Our department application is available for download, you will need a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader to view or print the file. You can obtain a printed version of the Department of Psychology graduate application by contacting our office at (209) 667-3386.

Note that the application to the M.A. program requires the following:

  • Choose an area of interest and a faculty member with whom you would like to work.
  • After consultation with the faculty member, include a brief description of a sample problem you might choose as a thesis,
  • Provide a letter of support from the faculty member stating that he or she agrees to serve as chair of your Master's committee and will direct the research for your chosen project.,
