Faculty

Full-time departmental faculty associated directly with the M.S. Psychology/Behavior Analysis program include:

  • Bruce E. Hesse, Ph.D., is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Licensed Psychologist who received his Ph.D. from Western Michigan University in 1984. Dr. Hesse maintains the experimental analysis of behavior pigeon laboratory and is largely responsible for training in basic animal research in the department. He teaches major cognate courses in the behavior analysis program, and supervises students completing theses, practicum, and teaching apprenticeships.

  • Jane S. Howard, Ph.D., is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Licensed Psychologist who received her Ph.D. in Psychology from Western Michigan University in 1978. Her primary research and applied work has been with children with exceptional needs. Her current focus is the effects of intensive early intervention with children with educational and developmental delays. She is the Founder and Co-Director of the University's Center for Direct Instruction (link to the Psychology Department's link for The Center for Direct Instruction), an on-campus clinic which provides intervention to children with academic and behavioral difficulties.

  • Gary Novak, Ph.D. is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst who completed the Ph.D. at State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1974. Dr. Novak teaches primarily in the area of child development and is the author of the textbook Developmental Psychology: Dynamical Systems & Behavior Analysis.

  • Gina M. Pallotta, Ph.D. completed the doctorate in Child Clinical Psychology at West Virginia University in 1991. She is a Licensed Psychologist who currently serves as Co-Director for the Psychology Department Graduate Programs. Pallotta teaches many of the clinically oriented courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.

  • William Potter, Ph.D. earned his doctorate in experimental psychology at Western Michigan University in 1996. His expertise in behavior analysis is complemented by skills in computer programming. Among his teaching, advising, and supervisory duties in the department, he also serves as Co-director for the Psychology Department's Graduate Programs.
